The Tradition Continues...

A photo from last year's cabbage making day. Grandpa's last. Grandpa teaches the tradition of making cabbage/sauerkraut to Adam and Alexis. We miss you, Grandpa!
Yesterday, the tradition continues....here's some farm-grown cabbage ready to be prepped and shredded. This year, both Adam and Alexis are preparing the cabbage in order to make sauerkraut.

The cabbage heads will be cut into quarters.
As a tribute to Grandpa Holowenko, Adam is wearing grandpa's favorite Benedictine sweatshirt and straw hat. The same ones that grandpa wore when he made the cabbage last year.
Shredding is a very careful process.

Alexis is removing the shredded cabbage and is getting ready to add the salt.
We had a lot of fun listening to polkas, too!
Alexis is adding the required amount of salt. This is a Holowenko recipe that's been handed down for years!
Finally, the mixing of the cut cabbage and salt. This takes forever! Once the consistency is correct, Alexis will put cabbage into large crocks for fermentation and to turn the cabbage into sauerkraut. The cabbage will be ready in a few months. Next time your over...ask for some to try!

Doing the ZOMBIE WALK in Amherst!

Our son Adam, (right) with his cousin Jared at the annual Zombie Walk in Downtown Amherst. This was Greg and Adam's first time doing the Zombie Walk last Saturday with tons of real live zombies!

Here's just a few of the zombies that turned out for the walk. This was a benefit walk for the local food-bank.

Greg took this picture of this old Cadillac ambulance from the 1963. Greg loves old Cadillacs! There were a couple of these old ambulances with skeletons in the back. This was a perfect start to the Halloween season!

50 Years Young!

                         Yes, it was my birthday!
The beautiful cake! This cake was unbelievably decorated and was simply, DELICIOUS!
PEACE! Our very best friends from our neighborhood! WE LOVE THEM ALL! They surprised me with a 60's retro birthday party at our home, with Go Go boots, beehive hairdos, wigs, glasses and everything you could think of from the 1960's! Click on any picture to ENLARGE!! You heard of people 'crowd-floating' during a concert? Well, we floated one of our pool floats! What an awesome surprise party! We have the best friends and we love them dearly for throwing me this AWESOME PARTY!!! THANK YOU GUYS!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!

Our Summer Vacation in Ocean City, New Jersey

Summer fun at the ocean!
We just got back from the ocean and had an awesome time there. The photos above were taken when Greg and our daughter got up extra early to walk the beach at sunrise to look for seashells. Greg was born in south Jersey, so it was fun retracing his beginnings!

This was the path we took each morning to sun and swim in the ocean.
Here's the beach where we spent most of our days. This was early, but around 9:00 a.m. this place was filled with people and their umbrellas. Greg taught the kids how to body-surf as some of the waves were huge! Greg and our son saw Dolphins swimming together during the time they were body-surfing.

Our Condo was awesome! We had a kitchenette, and plenty of room to relax. Yes, that's me on our balcony. Our balcony faced the ocean.
We took the kids to the go-cart track that was under the Boardwalk. Here's our daughter alerting our son that it's time to get ready to race.

This shot was taken at dusk. Notice the full-moon in the sky....and the pretty surf, too!
Greg snapped this one by the Music Pier at night and caught the pretty moon-glow shimmering on the water. We had so much fun at the ocean and it was so relaxing. Hope you are having a great summer, too!
